Batanes is often referred to as the “New Zealand of the Philippines” — and for good reason. Its untouched landscapes, sweeping vistas, and cool climate set it apart from the rest of the country’s tropical feel. With its kind-hearted locals, stunning views, and serene pace of life, Batanes is a dream destination for those craving solitude, authenticity, and raw natural beauty.
Made up of 10 islands (only three of which are inhabited), Batanes is the smallest and most isolated province in the Philippines — but its unique culture and landscapes make a big impression.
The Ivatan people have preserved their traditions and architecture for generations, living in harmony with nature.
Expect green pastures, lighthouses perched over cliffs, and coastlines where waves crash against stone. The capital, Basco, is your base for exploring the islands, offering small-town charm and access to key landmarks.
The only way to reach Batanes is by air.
Flights to Basco Airport (BSO) are available from Manila and Clark, operated by local carriers such as Philippine Airlines.
Due to its remote location, flights are limited and highly dependent on weather conditions — it’s recommended to book early and allow for flexibility in your travel plans.
The best time to visit Batanes is during the dry season- from March to June, when the weather is mild and skies are clear — perfect for sightseeing and photography.
Avoid the rainy season (July to November), as flights can be frequently delayed or canceled due to storms.
December to February is also a good time for cooler temperatures, but prepare for stronger winds.
